Reception at Penzión Kolkáreň, Stará Ľubovňa, under a brick vault in evening light
About us

A family-run guest house on the square

Stará Ľubovňa

Run by a family,
not a head office

Penzión Kolkáreň is run by a family. We are not a chain and there is no head office — we look after the building, the restaurant and the bowling alley ourselves. When you need something, you are talking to the person who decides.

Where the name comes from

Kolkáreň is not a marketing idea

Kolkáreň is the old Slovak word for a skittle alley — the ancestor of today’s bowling. The lanes are still here under the same roof, so the name is not a label but a description of what you will find.

What a stay looks like

A day at Kolkáreň

The whole stay happens at one address. Not because there is nowhere to go, but because you do not have to.

  1. 2 pm

    You park in the courtyard

Parking on the square is charged on weekdays and spaces are scarce. Here you have a place in the courtyard for your whole stay, included in the rate.

  2. 7 pm

    Dinner one floor down

Our kitchen cooks all day, not just at lunchtime. Turn up at seven and it is open — à la carte, pizza from our own oven and a daily menu.

  3. 9 pm

    It starts raining outside

Never mind. The bowling lanes and billiards are in the same building, so your evening is sorted without stepping out onto the street.

  4. 11 pm

You would rather not go down

Order from the menu and we will bring the food up to your room. Just call reception.

  5. Morning

Breakfast the way you chose it

Pick your breakfast in advance and find it ready in the morning. For groups we lay on a buffet in the restaurant.

Who it suits

Who feels at home here

A couple for the weekend

The King room with a bathtub and stone walls, dinner without moving the car and a drink at the bar. In the morning the castle and the Pieniny mountains are close by.

A family with children

An extra bed or a cot for €20 a night, pizza that even fussy eaters will finish, and bowling for a rainy afternoon.

A company event or training

A function room seating up to 110 people, parking for the whole team and dinner at the same address. Bowling instead of team building.

A stop on the way to Poland

The border is 15 minutes away, the Pieniny half an hour. We can check you in until 10 pm, so there is no need to rush, and the car stays in the courtyard.
